NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur met Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also Incharge Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), and discussed Civil Services related issues pertaining to the Union Territory.
Lieutenant Governor thanked the Minister for having responded to the Union Territory government’s requirement for more officers and said that with his intervention, a headway has been sought to be made. He also requested for posting of more number of AGMUT Cadre officers in Ladakh in view of the new centrally sponsored projects and schemes having been initiated. ....

India loses its status as 'free' under Freedom House's 2021 report

India’s status on Freedom House’s report on political rights and civil liberties was lowered to “partly free” in the United States government-funded non-governmental organisation’s annual Freedom in the World rankings. In 2020, the organisation’s report ranked India as “free”
“Political rights and civil liberties in the country have deteriorated since Narendra Modi became prime minister in 2014, with increased pressure on human rights organizations, rising intimidation of academics and journalists, and a spate of bigoted attacks, including lynchings, aimed at Muslims,” the report read. “The decline only accelerated after Modi’s reelection in 2019.” ....

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given its in-principle approval for 12 Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) units, comprising over 13,000 personnel in all, to tighten security at India’s borders with Bhutan and Nepal.
SSB Director General (DG) Kumar Rajesh Chandra told India Today TV, “Over 1,000 personnel in each battalion will be inducted in a phased manner, with a target of raising four battalions each year.” ....
