Industry leaders recap mental health bills from last session

The Utah Legislature passed significant mental and behavioral health legislation in the previous session to attempt to curtail high suicide rates and overdose deaths. 
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Utah has the sixth highest suicide rate in the country and is around the national average for overdose deaths. 
Rep. Mike Winder, member of the House Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee said:
“We have been thrilled to see Utah’s youth suicide rates plateau and even slightly decline in the last three years, but we’re not satisfied. We are chipping away and remain focused on that topic.” ....

Next Wednesday, April 14th, we are honored to convene the 2021 Utah State of Reform Health Policy Conference! With over 70 organizations already registered to be represented at this year’s conference, there is bound to be a considerable amount of energy and engagement at this event, even in a virtual format.
We typically get quite a surge of registrants in the final days ahead of our conference, so I expect this number will grow!

Tax cuts, vaccine mandates, billions for building top issues as Legislature in final stretch


SALT LAKE CITY The question of whether the government or even your boss should be able to order you to take the COVID-19 vaccine sparked debate on Utah s Capitol Hill as the Legislature nears the end of its 2021 session.
With one week to go, lawmakers have passed almost 200 bills and resolutions out of more than 700 filed. Of those, three involving nearly $100 million in targeted tax cuts focusing on families and retirees are advancing after legislative leaders detailed plans to help return to Utahns some of the surplus money the state is seeing.
One controversial bill that apparently will not advance would ban transgender athletes from competing in girls sports in Utah s public schools. A Senate committee held the bill in a meeting late Wednesday. ....
