Are they considering charging the ID. cars with DC current at home?
Volkswagen is launching in five German cities - Wolfsburg, Braunschweig, Hannover, Salzgitter and Kassel - a new pilot project to test and gather practical experience of using new
22 kW DC wallbox, developed by Volkswagen Group Components to eventually start series production in the future.
Since the currently available ID. models are equipped with 7.2 kW single-phase or 11 kW three-phase on-board chargers in Europe, the switch to 22 kW would cut charging time in half.

Electric/Hybrid - Volkswagen begins pilot phase for DC wallbox - Renewable Energy Magazine, at the heart of clean energy journalism

Monday, 14 December 2020
The Volkswagen Group has presented its innovative DC wallbox, capable of charging up to 22 kW, which will be operated in a pilot phase at five locations in order to gather practical experience necessary to move forward to the production phase.

The new wallbox will be able to charge electric vehicles with direct current (DC) up to 22 kW – double the speed of a typical wallbox operating with AC. In charging technology based on direct current, the electricity flows directly into the lead traction battery, provided that the electric vehicle features a combined charging system (CCS) charging port. Unlike systems based on alternating current, electric vehicles are charged independently of their integrated on-board chargers that limit charging capacity. Charging the lead traction battery with a direct current, on the other hand, increases the potential charging capacity when compared with alternating current. The charging ....
