HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Face masks are no longer required for fully vaccinated workers at Department of Defense facilities in Hawaii, the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command announced Monday.
They updated their mask policy to be in alignment with DoD guidance, however it goes against the state’s mask mandate, which remains in place. State rules requires everyone to wear a mask indoors, and in outdoor settings when social distancing can’t be maintained, regardless of vaccination status. ....

Many Department of Defense (DoD) agencies have been urgently called to accelerate their modernization strategies in the wake of COVID-19. The pandemic has pushed employees en masse to remote work, expanding the attack surface of data-sensitive networks. Blurred network lines have made it an imperative for agency leaders to rethink their cybersecurity, but how confident are they about the DoD’s progress in achieving a zero trust model? Are new cybersecurity strategies now prioritized amidst drastic changes to the work environment?
To answer these questions and more, Government Business Council (GBC) conducted a qualitative research campaign capturing the perspectives of some of the top DoD IT experts. MOODY AFB, Ga. (WTXL) â Moody Air Force Base officials announced Friday that fully vaccinated people are no longer required to wear masks indoors or outdoors on base.
The announcement comes as the Department of Defense sent a memo Thursday saying that masks were no longer required for those who are fully vaccinated at any DoD facility in response CDC changes and the effectiveness of the vaccines.
Moody AFB officials define fully vaccinated people as those who are two weeks past the final shot in their vaccine series, either the lone shot of the J&J or the second shot of Pfizer/Moderna. ....

DoD mum on regional troop presence plans after withdrawal

Defense officials say they will maintain some US troop presence near Afghanistan for counterterrorism operations into the future, but would not say where that force would be based or whether it could be in place before all American troops leave the war-torn country.
According to Military Times, David Helvey, acting assistant secretary of defense for Indo-Pacific Affairs said during a hearing before the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday: “Those planning efforts are in parallel [with the drawdown], but they’re not linked.”
“We have a substantial capability in the Middle East. We’ll still have the ability to prosecute terrorism from positions around the region. Looking at what that footprint is going to be like within the region is going to be an important part of the equation,” he said. ....
