Indianola City Council Approves Sale of Property

The Indianola City Council met in regular session Tuesday evening. Mayor Pam Pepper swore in three newly hired Indianola Police Department officers. The council approved the sale of property located at 506 W 2nd Ave, sewer upgrades and plans for the South Plan Lift Station, and temporary road closures for upcoming construction. The council also approved the renaming portions of R-63 Highway within the corporate limits of Indianola, and a professional services agreement for Valley Place Pavement Reconstruction before going into closed session to discuss litigation.
The council also held a study session after the meeting concluded, reviewing the status of Downtown Streetscape Project, and FY2022 budget materials. ....

Indianola City Council to Discuss Sale of Property

The Indianola City Council meets in regular session tomorrow due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. The council will discuss the sale of property located at 506 W 2nd Ave, and consider sewer upgrades and plans for the South Plan Lift Station, temporary road closures for upcoming construction, renaming portions of R-63 Highway within the corporate limits of Indianola, and a professional services agreement for Valley Place Pavement Reconstruction before going into closed session to discuss litigation. The board will also hold a study session after the meeting concludes, reviewing the status of Downtown Streetscape Project, and FY2022 budget materials. Kansas Wesleyan University hires new marketing, communication staff

Kansas Wesleyan University is adding more staff to its marketing and communications team, with three Salina women joining the department.
Karen Bonar will join as the associate coordinator of marketing and communication after coming from the Catholic Diocese of Salina, where she served as editor, lead photographer and chief writer for the diocese s monthly newspaper, The Register.
KWU said Bonar has a career in journalism dating back 18 years, including work in Hays, Independence and at The Salina Journal, winning multiple awards in the industry, including the Best Front Page honor from the Catholic Press Awards in 2020. She also has experience at KWU working as a freelance photographer for commencement. ....

City of Indianola 2021 Projects Accrue Grant Funding

The City of Indianola has completed the planning aspects of many projects, and are expected to begin construction on several in 2021, including the paving of E Iowa Ave to help with the Missouri Valley Line Training Facility construction, and the Downtown Streetscape Project, which coincides with the Warren County Justice Center Construction. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News because of the city’s careful planning, they were able to secure several grants worth $1.7 million to help offset the cost.
‘While we are not at the point of construction yet, the legwork to get these designed took a lot of time. It’s a generational project that will enhance the town square. The grant revenue funds the design aspects of it, to not only look great but be environmentally friendly. So that’s what those grants will help fund.” ....
