EDWARDSVILLE, Illinois (KMOV) Scott and Debbie Grigaitis say living by a crop field has been peaceful for the last 20 years. However, this past Monday they say that peace was disrupted by an overpowering stench of sewage.
“It’s bad, Debbie Grigaitis said. You can’t even step out of your door without it hitting you in the face.
She said crews were spraying fertilizer made from human waste on a crop field adjacent to their home. The City of Edwardsville was issued a permit by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to allow the company Veolia to spray what’s called biosolids on this field. Veolia is a private company contracted by Edwardsville to operate their wastewater treatment facilities. ....

EDWARDSVILLE As construction progresses, Edwardsville’s newest recreational facility recently signed on a new major sponsor.
The RP Lumber Center, a state-of-the-art facility, is the third and final recreational development to be completed as part of the “A Better Place to Play” initiative. It features an ice rink, teen center and 175-meter indoor track, located off of Tiger Drive and Governors’ Parkway, in Edwardsville. Anderson Hospital, located in Maryville, will be sponsoring the large fitness center located within the complex.
Anderson Hospital President Keith Page, and chief executive officer, said he is enthusiastic about the hospital’s involvement in the new recreational development. ....

Deer are visiting my neighborhood and I wondered why they have chosen to arrive now. That led me to look into the destruction of habitat in and around the region caused by building millions of square feet of buildings lots of banks and other commercial and residential developments. I thought that environmental activists would be a good place to start. What I found out was surprising.
Bob Gill has been a volunteer lobbyist for the Sierra Club for the past 15 years, and lived in Edwardsville for more than 25 years. He is very familiar with the area and its rapid growth. But Gill didn’t decry the destruction of habitat. He said the biggest problem in our area is stormwater. ....

EDWARDSVILLE With Jack Frost forecast to accompany Santa Claus on his rounds next Thursday into Friday, not everyone will have a warm and toasty place to roast their chestnuts.
On Friday, the City of Edwardsville announced a warming station location at the public safety building at 333 S. Main Street after initially declining to open any warming shelters due to the coronavirus, though he previously said, “we are watching the weather and COVID situation closely and reevaluating as needed.”
The public safety building’s lobby is open to the public 24/7 and is immediately available for short-term warming. Longer-term needs will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. ....
