CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts has proposed a 20-cent property tax increase to fund road improvements, citing the city s transportation needs and rapid growth.
In a release Wednesday, Pitts said the tax increase would fund “Tier 1 of the Transportation 2020 +” project and would generate $6.9 million per-year to invest in road improvements.
City officials said Clarksville’s current property tax rate is $1.0296 per $100 of assessed value, which they said is much lower than several comparable cities, such as Chattanooga at $2.277, Knoxville at $2.4638 and Murfreesboro at $1.2894. ....

CLARKSVILLE, TN – Republican Neil Stauffer, the current Assistant City Attorney for the City of Clarksville, has announced his candidacy for District Attorney of the 19th Judicial District, which includes Montgomery and Robertson Counties.
Stauffer has dedicated his life to protecting and serving our communities. As a soldier, Stauffer served on active duty for eight years in the US Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) where he prosecuted criminal cases and advised commanders on a variety of legal issues. As the senior prosecutor for the 101st Airborne Division, Stauffer led and trained a team of prosecutors and paralegals at one of the busiest criminal law offices in the Army, and he prosecuted the Division’s most complex, challenging, and high-profile cases. During his time on active duty, Stauffer deployed twice overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. Stauffer continues to serve as a Judge Advocate in the US Army ....

United Way launches program to help Clarksville residents hit by COVID struggles

CLARKSVILLE, TN – United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region has launched the Residence CARES Relief Fund program, which will be available immediately to residents of Clarksville-Montgomery County.
“Sometimes just a little help can prevent a bigger problem for a family in these uncertain times due to Covid-19,” said Valerie Guzman, chief executive officer of the United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region.
Due to the economic impact of COVID-19, there is an increase of hard-working families finding themselves in unforeseen financial circumstances that still do not necessarily qualify them for typical government assistance programs due to their level of income. These families are addressing situations that would not have otherwise been included in their budget before. ....
