Juanita Craft’s legacy lives on in South Dallas and NAACP youth
 
 
Dallas natives have described Juanita Craft as an icon who had great influence on the Civil Rights Movement. In an effort to keep her name and legacy alive, local groups have committed to restoring her home where she taught youth about civil rights during a time of racial tension and unrest, while a local youth group has committed to carrying mission on the to the next generation.
 
On Feb. 9, 1902, in Round Rock, Juanita Craft was born and her legacy began.
Her work in the Dallas community as a civil rights advocate and a politician coined her as one of the most influential activists in her community, according to Craft’s biography. ....

L.A.'s Latino Theater Company is partnering with Cara Mía Theatre in Dallas, TX to stream Cara Mia's world premiere production of Ursula, written, performed and directed by Mexican-born theater artist Frida Espinosa Müller. Müller's extraordinary performance as an unaccompanied minor arriving at the U.S.-Mexican border will stream on demand now through June 6. ....

Awards to Artists grants have been awarded to more than 300 recipients, many of whom have gone on to successful careers within North Texas and across the country. DeGolyer artists include Diedrick Brackens, Jeff Elrod, and Robyn O’Neil. Kimbrough artists include David Bates, Kelli Connell, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Sedrick Huckaby, Lawrence Lee, Melissa Miller, Michael Miller, Erick Swenson, and Xiaoze Xie. Dozier artists include Helen Altman, Scott Barber, Julie Bozzi, Joseph Havel, Stephen Lapthisophon, Katrina Moorhead, John Pomara, and Ludwig Schwarz. Over the years, the DMA has acquired works from many of the artists who have received awards from the DeGolyer, Kimbrough, and Dozier funds. Chris Schanck, a recipient of the DeGolyer award in 1994, is currently the subject of the exhibition ....

The city of Los Angeles’ Latino Theater Company is partnering with Cara Mía Theatre in Dallas to stream Cara Mia’s world premiere production of
Ursula, written, performed, and directed by Mexican-born theater artist Frida Espinosa Müller.
