Lincoln Park Vaccine Site Targets People of Color in ZIP Codes With High COVID-19 Rates – NBC 7 San Diego


Mack says he hates needles, but he thinks getting vaccinated is the right thing for his community.
“I definitely feel a lot more comfortable going out. And not only for us, but for other people,” said Mack.
The vaccination site was hosted by the City of Hope International Church. Many of the people who were vaccinated said they heard about the site through their pastor, or through a friend. The word-of-mouth outreach made the experience more comfortable for some people.
“Southeast San Diego and these zip codes have been the hardest hit and many people were apprehensive about who was asking them to get vaccinated, so when you get faith based leaders, it helps,” said Francine Maxwell, President of the NAACP, San Diego Chapter. ....

Black nurses bring vaccine to community centers, churches to target under-served people


Less than 2 percent of people who have been vaccinated in San Diego County are Black, data show
Black residents make up nearly 5 percent of the county’s population and account for 4,875 cases per 100,000 residents. That’s higher than rates among White and Asian residents but lower than rates among Latinos and Pacific Islanders.
The county has said it is placing vaccination sites in areas with large minority populations that have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

The county operates vaccination superstations in La Jolla, Chula Vista, La Mesa, San Marcos and Del Mar as well as some smaller operations. Its first mass immunization site near Petco Park will close permanently Saturday. ....
