Linkage Increase Signed Into Law
Last month, the City signed a 42 percent increase in Boston’s Linkage fees into law. The Linkage Program requires large scale commercial developments of more than 100,000 square feet in Boston to pay into funds that support the creation of affordable housing and workforce development. The increase will raise the current fees to $15.39 per square foot, of which $13.00 will be dedicated to affordable housing and $2.39 will be dedicated to workforce training. The funds collected through Linkage are administered by the Neighborhood Housing Trust through the Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) and the Neighborhood Jobs Trust through the Mayor s Office of Workforce Development. Since 2014, the Linkage program has generated over $80 million to support affordable housing and job training from new development. ....

The Clarion, a mixed-use building, opens in Grove Hall

A newly built mixed-income, mixed-use housing development opened on Monday in Grove Hall. Named The Clarion, the building not only brings income-restricted units to the neighborhood but it will also serve as home to Future Chefs, an organization that prepares teens for success after high school through culinary and job-readiness skills training.
Located at 311 Blue Hill Ave., The Clarion includes 39 units of rental housing, 32 of them income-restricted units at a range of income levels and the other 7 at market rate. The building also houses 5,750 square feet of commercial space on the first floor, the new home of Future Chefs. ....

The Clarion opens and includes new home for Future Chefs


A 39 unit mixed-income, mixed-use development in the Grove Hall neighborhood will also be a new home to the youth development nonprofit, Future Chefs.
Mayor Martin J. Walsh, developer The Community Builders (TCB) and non-profit Future Chef’s today announced the opening of The Clarion, a mixed-income, mixed-use housing development in Grove Hall. This residence consists of 39 units of rental housing, including 32 income restricted units at a range of income levels and 7 market-rate units. The building includes 5,750 square feet of commercial space on the first floor which is the new home of Future Chefs, a youth development non-profit that uses a work-based learning model to engage teens in paid work to develop culinary and essential life skills, setting youth up for successful careers in any field they choose. The Clarion also meets rigorous energy-efficient goals and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certified building. ....
