The Fort Wayne elections are more than two years away, but City Councilman Tom Didier is expected to announce his mayoral campaign today.
Allen County Republican Chairman Steve Shine said there is an “excellent possibility” that Didier, a Republican, will announce his run for the mayor s office at a 3 p.m. news conference today.
“I believe there will be a very positive announcement regarding his intentions for 2023,” Shine said.
Shine said he thinks Didier would make a great mayor.
“Tom is a very personable individual, well liked in the community,” he said. “That coupled with his intricate knowledge of City Council by being a longtime respected individual of City Council. He has a lot of knowledge about local government. He checks all the boxes.” ....

Standing at a podium inside Kelley Automotive s gleaming new Jaguar dealership Friday, Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry stressed that the city s food and beverage tax will not increase anytime soon.
Advocates don t even want to start the discussion until after January 2022, Henry said.
But they are asking the Indiana General Assembly to consider changing the law to grant municipalities the ability to raise that tax on their own, without approval from Indianapolis.
Should the legislature approve such a change, Henry said he would ask the Fort Wayne City Council to approve a one-cent per dollar increase to food and drink ordered at a restaurant or bar at some time in the future. ....
