PVACD vows to protect local waters after Carlsbad request

The Pecos Valley Artesian Conservancy District is reacting to a request by the Carlsbad Irrigation District to have Pecos River water usage decided by state officials on the basis of priority rights by stating that the “water of the Roswell Artesian Basin is once again under siege.”
But the local district also stated it is “confident that it will continue to be successful in protecting the water users of the Roswell Artesian Basin, whether they be municipal, industrial or agricultural.”
The statement released Monday and posted on the PVACD website is very similar to the one issued in 2013 regarding an earlier “priority call” resolution by the Carlsbad Irrigation District (CID). ....

Strasburg Town Council to hold two public hearings, discuss more

Two public hearings and several other items are on the agenda for the Strasburg Town Council work session on Monday night.
The two hearings are on the proposed mid-year budget amendment and an amendment to the Cedar Springâs Estates development proffer. The councilâs previous vote adopting the amendment didnât have a public hearing, negating it, Pearson said.
The mid-year budget amendment includes allocating about $400,000 in funds freed up by Caronavirus Assistance Recovery and Economic Stability (CARES) Act and an increase in meals and sales tax return projects. The tax return projections were cut to more conservative estimates at the start of the pandemic. ....
