Oxnard to begin search for new public works director

There s been some leadership changes at Oxnard s public works department. Public Works Director Rosemarie Gaglione, who came to the city in 2018, has left and is headed to Marin County. On Thursday, Marin County announced that Gaglione will be its new public works director, heading a department of 250 employees and a $64 million budget. Marin County Board of Supervisors was expected to vote on the appointment of Gaglione on Tuesday. Her last day with Oxnard was Friday. In the meantime, Craig Beck, who retired as the Long Beach public works director last year, will serve as the interim public works director for Oxnard until a permanent appointment is made. Oxnard City Manager Alex Nguyen said he will conduct a nationwide search to head public works.

Oxnard budget turns around thanks to increased sales tax, federal help

Oxnard s finance director has been known to break bad news. Whether it s a budget in the red or decimated reserves, Kevin Riper has been the bearer of grim news ever since he was hired two years ago. But the budget update considered during Tuesday s City Council meeting took on a different tone. The financial situation has turned around for the general fund, Oxnard s main spending account, with $17 million more in revenues than anticipated at the start of the pandemic.  It s owed to a variety of reasons but the main driver of a much improved financial situation is the voter approved Measure E. The new sales tax, an additional 1.5% for city services, begins April 1.
