BRIEFING Weirton City Manager Joe DiBartolomeo provides a welcome to those attending a briefing, Wednesday, on progress by the Frontier Group of Companies to redevelop more than 1,100 acres of former steel-making property in the city.
WEIRTON The Frontier Group of Companies continues its efforts to redevelop an area of former steel-making land in the city, and is seeking support from local, state and federal officials to help put some of the final pieces of the puzzle in place.
Company officials already have invested approximately $80 million into preparing more than 1,100 acres it purchased in the city in 2017 for future business use, and announced Wednesday it is hoping for a public investment of approximately $65 million to help fill in the gaps. ....

Residents bring speeding concerns to Weirton Council | News, Sports, Jobs

WEIRTON A group of residents approached Weirton Council, Monday, seeking help with speeding vehicles in their neighborhood.
During the Citizens’ Comments portion of Monday’s meeting, resident Amy Perez approached council with concerns over the speed of vehicles traveling on Powers Road.
“I’m not going to let it be ignored any longer,” Perez said.
Perez said the speeding is an issue both with visitors to the neighborhoods as well as residents, and asked for help in putting a stop to it.
She explained that Powers Road is a small and narrow street, and told of how in recent months her family’s dog was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle which drove away, and her fear the same could happen to her 5-year-old son. ....

Improvements being planned for Bowman Field in Weirton | News, Sports, Jobs

WEIRTON A series of improvements are in the works for an athletic field used by two area high schools and various other organizations.
Weirton parks officials announced the receipt of a $122,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to assist with planned upgrades to the Edwin J. Bowman Field, located in Municipal Plaza. The project was discussed in more detail during Thursday’s meeting of the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation.
According to Parks Executive Director Coty Shingle, plans include the installation of an irrigation system and warning track, replacement of the infield and three pitching mounds, as well as the installation of a new canopy over the bleachers. Other projects will help to bring the field more into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, including improvements to the access ramps leading to the stands from the parking lot. ....
