Mbizana local municipality to be renamed after Winnie Madikizela-Mandela

Mbizana local municipality has been officially renamed after the late struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in honour of her contribution to the struggle for liberation against the apartheid regime.
Provincial co-operative governance and traditional affairs (Cogta) MEC Xolile Nqatha gazetted the name change of Mbizana to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela local municipality on Thursday. It will take effect from the first day of the month following the date of publication in the provincial gazette.
Speaking to DispatchLIVE on Friday, Cogta spokesperson Mamnkeli Ngam, confirmed that the process was concluded after Mbizana mayor Daniswa Mafumbatha wrote to Nqatha requesting the name change. ....

Gurugram, March 4 (IANS) A team of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on a car driver identified as Rajat Singh over dumping garbage in the Sector-29 area here, officials said on Thursday.

Anchorage Fire Chief Jodie Hettrick said Wednesday that she plans to retire at the end of June.
Both Hettrick and Anchorage Police Chief Justin Doll will retire from the municipality as a new mayor is elected. It’s common practice for incoming mayors to replace fire or police chiefs and Hettrick said she is viewing this as an opportunity to retire after spending 34 years working in emergency services.
Hettrick was appointed chief by former Mayor Ethan Berkowitz in 2018. She joined the department in 2012 and has served as assistant chief, then deputy chief. She took the helm at the department after previous chief Denis LeBlanc retired. ....

Ease of Living Index: Bengaluru, Shimla adjudged best among 111 cities

Bengaluru emerged as top city on government s Ease of Living Index 2020 that was released by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday. Pune was second and Ahmedabad was ranked third among 111 cities.
Puri announced the release of the final rankings of Ease of Living Index (EoLI) 2020 and the Municipal Performance Index (MPI) 2020 in an online event.
The rankings under Ease of Living Index 2020 were announced for cities with a population of more than a million, and cities with less than a million people. 111 cities participated in the assessment exercise that was conducted in 2020. The analysis categorises them into Million+ populated cities (those with a population of more than a million) and Less than Million populated cites (those with a population of less than a million) along with all the cities under the Smart Cities Program. ....
