Anchorage Mask Mandate to Become Advisory on May 21
Acting Mayor Austin Quinn-Davidson announced that on May 21, Emergency Order 13v5 (EO-13v5) will be revoked, removing the requirement for mandatory masking throughout the Municipality of Anchorage.
This change comes as a result of updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) advising that fully vaccinated individuals no longer need to wear masks in most public settings, increased vaccination rates, and decreasing case counts in Anchorage.
This is a significant milestone and reflects the effectiveness of vaccines, and the commitment of our community over the past year to get us to this moment. The change will go into effect on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 8 a.m. ....

Anchorage’s citywide mask mandate will end May 21 and instead become advisory, according to Acting Mayor Austin Quinn-Davidson’s office.
The change follows the release of updated guidelines from the federal Centers for Disease Control Prevention that say fully vaccinated Americans can safely stop wearing face coverings in most settings both indoors and out, as well as increasing vaccinations among residents and decreasing infection counts, officials said Friday in prepared statement.
City officials said having the change take effect on Friday, May 21, is meant to protect the school district’s largely unvaccinated student population through the end of the academic year. ....

A signed parental/guardian consent form is required for minors age 12 to 17 to be vaccinated.
