Texas Tech's outgoing Raider Reds revealed at 2021 Passing of the Guns Ceremony


The two were unmasked at the annual Passing of the Guns ceremony at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center.
“It was such a joy working with Triston and Jacey during their year as Raider Red,” said Bruce Bills, head cheer and mascot coach. “They always brought high energy, creativity and passion for Texas Tech that showed at each of their appearances and game performances.”
Ross, a mechanical engineering major who will graduate with her master’s degree in May, and Colquett, a kinesiology major who graduated in August, and their assistants attended more than 100 on- and off-campus events, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. ....

Texas Tech spirit squad fares well in national championships

That was some memorable week for the spirit program at Texas Tech with the pom squad winning two national championships, the co-ed cheer squad taking a second place, Raider Red collecting top prize in the mascot category, and the STUNT partner team grabbing a third place.
All in all, not a bad few days work.
The recognition was the result of a lot of hard work leading up to the National Cheerleaders Association & National Dance Alliance Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships that were held recently in Daytona Beach, Florida.
It is sometimes easy to overlook the efforts of those who comprise the Red Raider spirit program, but these young men and women put in countless hours of work honing their skills and polishing their routines while representing Texas Tech in a positive manner. Earning these accolades in competitions against other respected programs affirms their talent and commitment. ....

PROVO Two Utah college dance teams were in familiar territory at the close of the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships over the weekend in Daytona Beach, Florida.
For the 20th time in program history, BYU s Cougarettes dance squad won a national championship, clinching the Division I-A hip hop national title on Saturday. That s 20 national titles in the 40th year of the NCA and NDA national events, which have been hosted in Daytona Beach for 25 consecutive seasons.
The Cougarettes returned to the top of the hip-hop mountain under first-year co-head coaches Stacy Bills and Morgan St. Pierre, who took over the program following the retirement of legendary director and choreographer Jodi Maxfield last April. Maxfield won 19 national championships in 30 years with the program. ....

Texas Tech University’s pistol-toting mascot took top honors competing at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) & National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida.
In typical Texas Tech fashion, Raider Red finished in first place in the Mascot division for the first time ever with a score of 94.27, beating out Sam Houston State University’s second-place finisher Sammy the Bearkat by 1.83 points.
“I’m so excited for Raider Red!” said Bruce Bills, head cheer and mascot coach. “With games and events being altered all year due to COVID-19, this championship is the perfect way to end the year.” ....

LUBBOCK, Texas (News Release) - Texas Tech University’s Raider Red competed today (April 10) at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) & National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida.
