CONCORD, NH Two candidates have filed to run for the open Ward 4 Concord City Council seat to be decided in a special election on July 13.
Karen McNamara of Prince Street and Connor Spern of Union Street both filed to run on Friday. There were no new filings were reported on Monday.
The seat was vacated by Meredith Hatfield, formerly of Perkins Street, who resigned from the board last month, after selling her home and moving out of the city. Hatfield, an environmental attorney, won a three-way special election for the seat in 2019, with 149 votes besting John Cook, who came in second with 99 votes, and Edith Chiasson, who received 51 votes. The special election was held after Byron Champlin resigned from the seat when he won an at-large city council special election that year. Hatfield ran unopposed in November 2019. ....

I moved to Concord in 2015 and quickly learned that I had stumbled upon the most wonderful community, one that I am grateful to serve. I work for The Friends Program, I’m a coordinator and board member for The Friendly Kitchen, a winter shelter manager for Concord Coalition to End Homelessness, a steering committee member for Concord Young Professionals Network and a student at NHTI.
As a renter, I’ve experienced Concord’s housing crisis firsthand. I am highly involved in supporting un-housed members of our community and motivated to find housing solutions that benefit everyone. As a young professional, I represent the many hardworking young people in Concord, vital to our economy and eager to take part in Concord’s future. I can bring this perspective to the Council and encourage engagement in our community’s YP population. ....

Today, I’m celebrating two months working at Checkmarx as a Talent Marketing Specialist. I became inspired to write this article after reading Liat Ashkenazi’s piece and after making sure that I had lessons learned to share with you, my dear readers.
It’s important to say that this wasn’t the first company I joined since the COVID-19 pandemic started. I decided to leave out the first from my LinkedIn because the experience wasn’t good. Therefore, I can easily compare and emphasize only the positive things. ....

Dozens of seniors throughout the county expressed frustration and anger this week as COVID-19 vaccination slots opened up to people 65 years old and older, and as many of them tried to register, they found the state website where people sign up for all vaccine locations had crashed.
The Greenfield Recorder reporter received more than a dozen calls Thursday from some of those seniors who said they’d been trying to register for the vaccine for days, even before the 65-plus announcement on Wednesday, and could not get an appointment. ....
