A police service dog has sniffed out drugs worth millions on the West Rand. 
According to the police s Kay Makhubele, detectives of the Gauteng Provincial Organised Crime Investigations narcotics unit and West Rand K9 members operationalised information on a suspected shipment of drugs destined for Australia on Thursday and activated the K9 service dog, named Buddy. ....

THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) - National Capital Region (NCR) said it oversaw the issuance of separation pay amounting to P2.3 billion to nearly 1,500 employees retrenched by Philippine Airlines (PAL).
A total of 1,455 retrenched workers of the flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) received their separation pay worth P2,315,477,240.00, DOLE-NCR said in a statement.
The affected workers were either voluntarily and involuntarily separated from the company.
The DOLE-NCR also noted that the original retrenchment plan announced in February involved 2,300 employees.
However, PAL management decided to retain 845 workers. (HDT / SunStar Philippines) ....

Police in Gauteng stopped a consignment of drugs worth R6.5m and hidden in statue from being shipped to Australia.
Police spokesperson Capt Kay Makhubele said detectives from the Gauteng provincial organised crime investigation and narcotics units and West Rand K9 members on Thursday evening received information on the suspected shipment of drugs destined for Australia and activated the K9 service dog “Buddy”.
Police intercepted the consignment of suspect drugs and arrested four suspects.
“The multidisciplinary team activated the K9 service dog Buddy . The sniffer dog reacted positively to the contents of the consignment of drugs. Further investigation confirmed that the statue contained 22kg of concealed crystal meth drugs,” Makhubele said. ....
