Grad rates at Lewiston, St. Charles, C-FC, G-E-T schools beat state avg.

The most updated four-year graduation rates were above the statewide average for several local school districts, including Lewiston-Altura, St. Charles, Cochrane-Fountain City (C-FC) and Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau (G-E-T), according to the Minnesota Department of Education and Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. However, in some cases, the districts’ rates rose over previous years, and in others, decreased. The graduation rates came as school districts worked through the obstacles of the pandemic. 
Minnesota’s graduation rate was 83.8 percent in 2020. With graduation rates of 90.8 percent and 97.1 percent, respectively, the Lewiston-Altura and St. Charles public school districts’ rates were well above average. For Lewiston-Altura, however, the rate decreased between 2019 and 2020.  ....

Drumming is like a heartbeat, instructors told Riverway Learning Community students. After weeks of building a Native drum and gaining knowledge about its meaning, students finally got to experience that beat for themselves as they performed a song.  
The students assisted with putting together the drum as part of an extracurricular activity throughout this spring led by Angela and Patrick Boozhoo, co-chairs of the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC), and community member Paul Barrett. “Because it is about community,” Angela said. “Now the children are tied to that drum. They’re always welcome to come to that drum, to sit at it, to sing. Whatever it is. No matter what.”  ....
