A machine learning algorithm that predicts suicide attempt recently underwent a prospective trial at the institution where it was developed, Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Over the 11 consecutive months concluding in April 2020, predictions ran silently in the background as adult patients were seen at VUMC. The algorithm, dubbed the Vanderbilt Suicide Attempt and Ideation Likelihood (VSAIL) model, uses routine information from electronic health records (EHRs) to calculate 30-day risk of return visits for suicide attempt, and, by extension, suicidal ideation. ....

Economic fallout from COVID-19 ends plans to convert an historic concert hall to office space.

NATICK After an online petition generated more than 1,000 signatures to stop a historic concert hall in the Clark Building downtown from being converted into office space, a Boston real estate company that owns the building has dropped the plan.
Ted Davis, vice president of capital projects at Kensington Investment Company, Inc., told the Daily News Friday afternoon of the company’s decision.
Davis listed several reasons for the move, including the economic fallout from COVID-19 that he said makes it unwise to invest in more office space. Mayflower bobbing in the harbor, view the cramped cabin where the compact was signed, and stand before renderings of earnest Pilgrims and friendly American Indians gathered around a Thanksgiving table. Then we would hike up Burial Hill to tour the tombstones dating back nearly four centuries. Markers indicated the time of starvation that took the lives of the majority of the 102 settlers that first winter. The theological rigor and sheer human courage that drove them across the ocean imprinted themselves on our minds. ....
