First and foremost, we commend President Biden for his commitment to addressing the economic crisis and hardship caused by the pandemic. We also give praise to his dedication to increase vaccination rates, especially for older adults who have been socially isolated and highly susceptible to infection during this pandemic.
However, the president s proposal would be greatly improved if Congress added two provisions, both of which would significantly help this vulnerable population. ....

DALLAS The new Singing Hills Recreation Center is open and operating at 25% capacity.
“I think it s a legacy project,” Dallas City Councilman Tennell Atkins said. “I think it s something that should have been done many, many years ago.”
Atkins represents the area around the new recreation center.
The 41,000 square foot facility includes a fitness center and baseball courts, as well as a recording studio, commercial kitchen, computer lab, and senior center. ....

SAN ANTONIO – If you were having trouble accessing the WellMed locations on San Antonio’s South and West Sides this week you weren’t alone.
As of Wednesday afternoon, a staggering 5.6 million phone calls had been received since registration opened over the weekend, Councilwoman Adriana Rocha-Garcia told KSAT.

SAN ANTONIO – Unlike the City of San Antonio’s mass vaccination clinic at the Alamodome, which required registration online or by calling 311, two other clinics on the South Side and West Side of San Antonio operated by using a toll-free number.
WellMed in partnership with City Council Districts 3, 4 and 7 said that the toll-free number (833-968-1745) was quickly jammed as community members attempted to make an appointment.
Rebecca Viagran, who represents District 3, said they received more than 170,000 phone calls from people who wanted one of the 9,000 doses available. ....
