To the Editor: As residents of the Town of Bennington, we would like to express our appreciation to Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) for their purchase of the former Southern Vermont College (SVC) campus as well as the efforts of David of Newell and Michael McKenna in setting up âThe Grateful Bennington Fund.â We appreciate the challenges of the decision for SVHC and know it was made for the âgreater goodâ of the community and its residents.
We and our families are grateful that the SVHC leadership and Board of Trustees deemed this project a priority for the community. As users of the trails and as neighbors in the community understand, it is important to keep this community asset available, and we appreciate the collaborative approach towards the development and utilization of the land and structures. Fund drive hopes to raise $500K to support SVC reuse plans

BENNINGTON â A community fund drive will be conducted in February with the goal of raising $500,000 to assist in planning and implementing reuse and redevelopment efforts for the former Southern Vermont College campus and its buildings.
David Newell, a member of the collegeâs board of trustees prior to its closure in 2019, and Michael McKenna, of D.B. McKenna & Co. financial advisors, proposed the idea to Southwestern Vermont Health Care, which acquired the campus through a bankruptcy auction in December.
The SVHC Foundation, which raises money for the nonprofit health care organization, will oversee the fund drive and collect donations for an account designated toward long-term campus planning and development work. ....
