It s full steam ahead on the construction of the Broadway subway line in Vancouver.
The six-stop extension going from Commercial station mostly along Broadway to Arbutus Street is set to be completed in 2025.
The Broadway project is currently projected to cost $2.8 billion.
The work being done now is to build the station decks at the six locations before starting the tunneling preparation in the fall and boring in mid-2022.
The biggest worry from the province is traffic disruptions, something they optimistically hope can be kept to a minimum. ....

This is how the Broadway Subway will be built over the next five years

Project officials provided media with a technical briefing earlier today, giving greater detail on the years-long construction process to come.
Traffic disruptions have already been occurring for several weeks at the intersection of Main Street and Broadway for the bridge-like traffic deck being installed over the span of the city block, which will allow for the excavation and construction of Mount Pleasant Station below it. These disruptions with reduced lanes will continue for about six months, until the deck is complete to establish four temporary travel lanes over the construction site.
The four other new subway stations along Broadway Broadway-City Hall, Oak-VGH, South Granville, and Arbutus will also each have four-lane traffic decks spanning a block or more over the station construction site, replicating street level. Traffic deck installation and excavation at these other stations will begin later this year. ....

The only two exceptions are South Granville Station and Great Northern Way-Emily Carr Station.
Construction on this building is well underway after a simple development permit application was swiftly approved, but the developer is anticipated to return to the municipal government in the near future with a rezoning application for added floors for residential or extra commercial density.
The five-storey building at South Granville Station is currently being built to accommodate this eventual vertical expansion; there will be six underground levels of parking and an extra elevator core to serve an overhead tower. ....

Broadway Subway: These are the latest designs for the new Vancouver stations

The provincial government has released the latest design proposals for the Broadway Subway project and is now seeking feedback from the public.
A virtual open house is being held online until the middle of next week as an opportunity for locals to share their opinions.
An open house was held last fall after the initial plans for these stations were released. The province says the designs have since been amended, reflecting some of the feedback received during that round of consultation.
Changes in the latest designs include better lighting, accessible paving treatments, adjustments to bike parking amenities, enhanced seating areas and better integration with the neighbourhood and design features to provide a sense of place. ....
