Lawmakers Propose Bills to Prevent Income Discrimination Against Renters

Texas, Utah and Massachusetts have banned source of income discrimination by landlords. Former Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti said now is the time for Illinois to step up and join those states.
Single mothers who get child support payments and disabled people who live on disability income should not be turned down for rentals because their source of income is not a pay stub, Sanguinetti said.
“People right now are being left homeless in a pandemic because landlords in Illinois are still free to discriminate, based on source of income,” Sanguinetti said. ....
