8 arrested after fight at Narragansett Town Beach


With 20 to 25 officers, the police ordered the beach cleared, but several people refused to comply and seven more were arrested, according to Corrigan.
The eight arrested included three juveniles. The defendants were from Narragansett, Providence, Johnston, Cranston, North Kingstown and Connecticut, according to Corrigan.
Charges included assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and failure to obey an order to disperse, Corrigan said. One person was charged with possession of alcohol.
One police officer was pushed on the beach, and another was assaulted at the police station, according to Corrigan. There were no injuries.
There were rumors going around that it was gang-related, Corrigan said. There s no evidence of that. ....

Council largely expands coastal access parking in Point Judith


NARRAGANSETT – In a victory for surfers, water enthusiasts and coastal access advocates, the Narragansett Town Council Monday night amended its parking ordinance to allow on-street parking in a popular Point Judith neighborhood known for its nearby coastal access points and large swells. Despite some resistance from property owners in the neighborhood, the town council moved ahead with opening up one side of the road on select streets for public parking in a unanimous vote.
“People are parking on these side streets right now,” said Narragansett Town Council President Jesse Pugh. “It’s happening and they’re getting ticketed for it sometimes. We can fix that problem right now by saying it’s legal to park on one side of the road on three streets.” ....
