“South Africa could be facing a health-care worker crisis if the current and projected shortage of skilled health professionals is not addressed.”
This is a stark warning issued by the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA), following the recent release of data around critical skills.
While the World Health Organization projects a worldwide workforce shortfall of about 18 million healthcare workers by 2030, recent local data showed that South Africa also has cause for concern.
According to Xpatweb’s Critical Skills Survey 2020/21 the “Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences“ are among the country’s current top 10 most in-demand skills. ....

The Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) has launched a career guidance portal to help job seekers find opportunities in the health, social development and veterinary sectors.
Chief Executive Officer of HWSETA Elaine Brass says the career portal is a digital platform that will help job seekers make informed career choices.
“The portal enables us to offer our job-seeking stakeholders a digital platform that will empower them with knowledge and give them access to a variety of resources to guide them on their career path,” she says. ....

THE Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) has launched an online career portal that offers advice to pupils about the various working opportunities within the health sector.
The new career portal is promised to burst with information and advice on health, social development and veterinary-related careers.
According to HWSETA, the career portal is aimed at guiding and informing pupils about how to pursue a career within the related fields. It offers a range of resources including a comprehensive list of careers available in the health, social development and veterinary sectors and career guidance advice including; subject choices, relevant tertiary institutions, approved training providers and possible funding opportunities available through institutions. ....
