Defending champion Henry Neal has announced his withdrawal from the Touring Car Trophy incorporating TCR UK ahead of the season opener this weekend at Silverstone.
Neal was due to defend the title in his Team Dynamics-run Honda Civic Type R but has now pulled his entry citing a new opportunity that has arisen later in the year.
The decision to withdraw means a 15 car entry is set to do battle in the opening round, with twelve TCR UK entries joined by three NGTC-spec cars entered by Team HARD.
“After much consideration we have sadly pulled out of the Goodyear Touring Car Trophy for this year,” Neal said. “A new fresh opportunity has recently come about for us at the end of the year, which will be announced at some point over the next few months. We sadly can’t justify doing both and this new opportunity is just too good to miss out on. ....

Reigning Civic Cup Bruce Winfield will hope to build on a successful 2020 season when he graduates to the Touring Car Trophy incorporating TCR UK this year.
Winfield, who also secured the Time Attack Championship Pro Extreme Class title last season, will be at the wheel of a Cupra Leon TCR being run by Area Motorsport as he joins the grid for the first time.
The 28-year-old has tested a number of times during the winter and will hope to hit the ground running when the new season kicks off next weekend at Silverstone. ....

The Motus One team has announced plans to run a three-car assault on the TCR UK category within the 2021 Touring Car Trophy.
The team has acquired three Honda Civic Type R TCRs that will be driven by team boss Will Powell, Dave Scaramanga and Danny Krywyj – the latter who will be making his racing debut.
Motus One has previously run cars in a range of other series including Britcar and the GT Cup, where it has been working with Brabham Automotive and the new BT62.
“We’ve made no secret of our ambition to add touring cars to the team’s activities and the Goodyear Touring Car Trophy has made that viable for us in 2021,” Powell said. ....

The two Hyundai i30 N TCR cars previously used by Bryan Herta Autosports are set to compete in the TCR UK class of the Touring Car Trophy for 2021.
The two cars, which won their class in the Pirelli World Challenge series in 2018, have arrived in the UK from Hyundai Motorsport’s base in Germany having returned to the factory when BHA switched to the Veloster N TCR.
Drivers for the two cars, which currently reside with Maximum Motorsport, are set to be named early next year.
“It’s a great start to our rejuvenated programme to see these two championship-winning cars in the UK,” series boss Stewart Lines said. ....
