JOHNSTOWN The Common Council took action Monday night to free up the vehicular area around the Knox Building, which is again housing city students.
The building used to be known as Knox Junior High School, but was simply turned into a largely administrative building at the start of this school year. But during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Greater Johnstown School District has now shifted fifth and sixth grade students from Warren Street Elementary School to the building and there is a worry about parking and public vehicular traffic access to the South Perry Street building.
Following a public hearing, the council Monday night at City Hall adopted an ordinance/local law to amend the city Code of Ordinances. Effective immediately, there is “No Parking Any Time” on the east side of South Perry Street – from the intersection of First Avenue to the intersection of Fourth Avenue. ....

The Common Council voted unanimously Monday night to ban all parking at all times on the east side of South Perry Street in front of the former Knox Junior High School from the intersection of 1st Avenue to the intersection of 4th Ave.
Monday night Jackson told the council the Greater Johnstown School District asked for the parking change in the wake of the district’s decision to move 5th and 6th grade students to the Knox building, creating the potential for an influx of traffic during school drop off and pick up times. ....

JOHNSTOWN The Greater Johnstown School District like other school systems is working hard on trying to get more students connected to the internet for remote learning purposes.
Superintendent William Crankshaw, in his recent report to the Board of Education, said 8 percent of the Johnstown students don’t have internet connectivity.
The connections are important in the learning process during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
He said instruction has been “strong,” but not always coordinated.
In conjunction with the fight against COVID, Crankshaw reported that district staff and faculty are “actively making appointments” for COVID vaccinations The superintendent said he already had his first of two shots. ....

Mr. Anton Harazin passed away peacefully January 7, 2021, at his home in Sarasota, Florida, with his loving daughters by his side. He was born on April 12, 1929, in Chicago.
Anton “Tony” Harazin was the son of the late Anton J. Harazin and Josephine Lucasik Harazin of Chicago.
He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Myrtle Harazin; his sister, Gloria Jean Koscilniak; and brother, Edward Harazin.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Radek and husband Bob, and Beth Harazin of Sarasota; son, Marcus Harazin and wife Ann of Delmar; four grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Anton received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago and his Master of Arts degree in Arts Education from Columbia University. He graduated from Harrison High School in Chicago. ....
