Doctorate of Divinity degrees awarded to two Regina Anti-Poverty Advocates

Peter Gilmer and Bonnie Morton from the Regina Anti-Poverty Ministry have been honoured with Doctorate of Divinity degrees from St. Andrews College.
Both Gilmer and Morton have worked for several years with the ministry to help low-income residents and families get back on their feet, as well as public advocacy.
While the doctorates were supposed to be issued last year, Gilmer says this year works just fine.
“2021 is an important year for us for a few reasons,” Gilmer said. “It marks 50 years since the creation of our forerunner which is The Regina Downtown Chaplaincy so there’s been 50 years of this ministry here but also 25 years of that has been through the Regina Anti-Poverty Ministry.” ....

Sask. urges residents to go virtual this Easter weekend as many churches go online

REGINA
The Government of Saskatchewan is urging residents to take extreme care heading into the long weekend.
“If they are getting together, we ask them to be very diligent because it doesn t take much for to spread through a family spread through a household,” said Paul Merriman, the province’s health minister.
Within the Regina zone, indoor private gatherings are limited to immediate households. People who live alone and single parents of minors are allowed to meet with one consistent household of less than five people.
The province is strongly suggesting all Saskatchewan families consider virtual gatherings.
“This is again an Easter weekend where we must take care and stay close to our home communities. If we do choose to attend worship services, you know, look at what your attendance options, virtual is always safer than in person,” said Dr. Saqib Shahab, Saskatchewan’s chief medical health officer said Thursday. ....

Regina City Council set to discuss controversial energy sponsorship motion

REGINA
On Wednesday, Regina City Council will hear from more than 20 delegations regarding a motion put forward at last week’s Executive Committee meeting, proposing energy companies be banned from sponsorship and naming rights of city buildings and events.
The motion was brought forward by Ward 6 Councillor Daniel LeBlanc, who has since posted on Facebook saying he plans to withdraw the motion at Wednesday’s meeting after receiving an outpouring of feedback from the public. LeBlanc said the motion was “too much too soon.”
The motion received mixed reaction, including strong words from Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe.
Delegations scheduled to speak in Wednesday’s meeting include a representative from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, the Saskatchewan Winter Games, Keystone Group of Companies and the Regina & District Chamber of Commerce. ....
