Neighbors speak out against new housing development in East Knox County


The new subdivision off of Ruggles Ferry Pike will encapsulate nearly 500 homes.

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. A recently approved, controversial housing development in an East Knox County community is stirring up conversation online.
Off of Ruggles Ferry Pike, lies 180 acres of land covered with grass, trees, and community walked trails. The land is soon to be known as Innsbruck Farms.
This is the latest development in the county s ongoing struggle to expand. Knox County is in need of 40,000 homes in the next 30 years to meet the increasing population. Innsbruck Farms is just the beginning. ....

Knoxville home builders struggle to meet real estate demand


On top of increasing costs, the lack of available land in East Tennessee is a concern.
Developers buy land and prepare it for housing by putting in the necessary infrastructure, including roads, utilities, sewer lines, electricity and more. Then, they sell the empty land to a building company to construct homes. 
Instead of selling individual plots to builders, many developers are pushing to sell whole subdivisions as infrastructure prices rise. Cook said buying that much property isn t  financially feasible for his business and other locally owned operations. The result is fewer developable lots for local home builders.
The developable land inventory is down, and it s shrinking fairly rapidly, Brooks told Knox News.  We live in an area of the country that has a lot of topography. We have a lot of water. So the land that is still available to be developed is more challenging pieces of property. I think that that will prove to be more of a challenge for ....

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee Seven people, several with extensive community and sports experience, have been vetted and nominated to serve on the inaugural Knoxville-Knox County sports authority that would oversee financing and construction of a proposed downtown sports stadium.
The seven are Joan Cronan, Alvin Nance, Richard Bass, Rosalyn Tillman, Jeff Hagood, Tim Hill, and Nikitia Thompson.
They must be approved by the Knoxville City Council and Knox County Commission. The governing bodies are expected to review the nominees in the coming weeks. ....

Amy Brooks to lead Knoxville Knox County Planning

Jacobs and Kincannon credited Brooks with working well with planning commissioners as they weigh land-use proposals.
According to Friday s announcement, Brooks is a member of the American Institute for Certified Planners, a nationally certified public manager and is treasurer for the Tennessee chapter of the American Planning Association.
Brooks has a master s in urban and regional planning from the University of Michigan and a bachelor s degree in environmental studies and political science from Maryville College. ....
