KNOXVILLE, Tenn. City leaders gave the Knoxville Area Transit the green light to buy four new, fully electric buses in December 2019.
Now, the City of Knoxville received a $4.8 million federal grant in July for electronic buses, KAT says that by January 2022, its will have 12 electric buses.
This is just the beginning of Knoxville s plan to have all electric KAT buses by 2030. ....

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Knoxville city leaders agreed to fund several projects and initiatives Tuesday evening.
They agreed on spending $450,000 on a new Fort Kid playground. The agreement was with Murfreesboro-based Great Southern Recreation for the design and construction of a new play structure after the original Fort Kid was demolished in 2020 for several hazards and safety concerns.
The new play structure at Fort Kid will be located between 11th Street and World’s Fair Park Drive on the western edge of downtown. ....

The Knoxville Fire Department posted pictures of a crash involving a Knoxville Area Transit bus and a FedEx delivery truck Wednesday afternoon. According to the Knoxville Police Department, the bus driver and one rider were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The pictures showed a KAT bus with the front end smashed through the side of a building around 2:50 p.m., damaging brickwork and destroying an outdoor stairwell to the top floor. They also showed a FedEx truck with a damaged front-end after hitting a pole. ....
