Nest, the workplace pension scheme representing a quarter of the UK workforce, will take another step in reducing its carbon footprint while increasing investment in emerging market equities.
Emerging markets are set to continue outpacing growth in developed markets, driven by younger populations and a rising middle class.
Nest wants its members to benefit from this economic growth and by February 2021, the pension scheme plans to nearly double its investment in emerging markets, from around £480m as of September 2020 to an estimated £930m by February 2021 (from 3.6 to 6 per cent of Nest’s total portfolio). At the same time, the carbon footprint of this growth will need to be carefully managed if Nest is to meet ....

Nest has announced a new climate strategy to support plans to nearly double its investment in the exciting growth area of emerging markets.
The strategy will mean that more than half (51 per cent) of the scheme’s overall portfolio, representing nearly £8bn, will be in dedicated climate-aware strategies as of February 2021.
It will also support plans to nearly double the scheme s investment in emerging markets, increasing from around £480m as of September 2020 to an estimated £930m by February 2021, equal to 6 per cent of the scheme’s total portfolio. ....

Workplace pension scheme Nest has unveiled plans to ramp up its investment in energy efficiency upgrades, renewables, and green buildings in a bid to slash the carbon footprint of its portfolio and take advantage of exciting growth areas in emerging markets, it announced yesterday.
Kicking off the latest stage of its 2050 net zero strategy, Nest said it planned to almost double its investment in emerging market equities from around £480m to an estimated £930m by February next year, while reducing investments in fossil fuels and carbon-intensive firms. ....

NEST, the UK defined contribution master trust, has adopted a climate aware strategy for planned increased investment in emerging market (EM) equities.
By February 2021, it plans to nearly double its allocation, from around £480m (€519m) as of September to an estimated £930m (from 3.6% to 6% of NEST’s total portfolio).
The workplace pension scheme has adopted a strategy with an “energy tilt” given that it is aiming for the greenhouse gas emissions associated with its portfolio to be net-zero by 2050 or sooner, with an expectation for a halving of the emissions footprint by 2030.
The new strategy will track a customised index produced in collaboration with Northern Trust Asset Management that will tilt investment in companies based on a score calculated on three key components: energy efficiency, alternative energy, and green building. ....
