ARIA Appoints Natalie Waller as Chair

ARIA has a new chair.
With immediate effect, Natalie Waller is elected chair for a two-year term, slotting into the position left vacant by the exit of former Sony Music ANZ chief Denis Handlin.
A stalwart with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Waller has served as head of ABC Music & Events since 2012, having joined the public-broadcaster in 1998.
At ABC Music, Waller has experience across many genres, with an emphasis on Australian music and championing niche genres, and she works with a string of ABC music brands including the national youth network, triple j.
Currently, she holds the post as vice chair of the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA), was appointed to the board of the Country Music Association (CMA) in January 2021 and serves as chair of the CMA Australian Task Force. ....

Joy McKean, Australia’s “queen of country,” is the 2021 recipient of the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music, one of the highest accolades in the nation s music industry.
It’s a fitting tribute for McKean, who paved the way for generations of homegrown country artists over a career spanning upwards of 70 years.
The trailblazing country singer and songwriter first made her mark in the 1940s and ‘50s, working alongside her sister Heather as the McKean Sisters and created an enduring partnership in life and music with her husband Slim Dusty, writing many of his most famous songs. She also managed the late country great for more than 50 years, and co-founded the Country Music Association of Australia in 1992. ....

APRA Awards to honour country music legend Joy McKean, announce full lineup
Plans for this month’s APRA Awards are ramping up, with the association announcing that country music matriarch Joy McKean OAM will be honoured on the night, and unveiling a host of live performances from new and established writers.
McKean will be the second recipient of the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music in 2021, alongside the late Helen Reddy, who was announced earlier this year. Her 70-year career began with writing songs in her early teens, before performing, recording and broadcasting with her sister Heather in the 1940s and ’50s. ....
