RI State Symbols: Calamari, the Rhode Island Red hen and... coral?

I am devastated to learn there is no evidence of dinosaurs in Rhode Island.
I researched this after finding 14 states have a dinosaur state symbol, including Triceratops in Wyoming and Stegosaurus in Colorado.
But because of geologic quirks, local paleontologists have found almost no fossils, including dinosaur ones, from the Jurassic and related eras.
This strikes me as unfair since both Connecticut and Massachusetts have state dinosaurs - Dilophosaurus and Podokesaurus respectively.
But you can’t have one without evidence.
Embarrassingly, Wikipedia tells me the closest we’ve come was in 1892 when a clergyman found the fossilized wing of a prehistoric cockroach in Pawtucket. ....

Free and easy Demons host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in final regular-season series

NATCHITOCHES – As the busiest Southland Conference baseball season in Northwestern State history winds down, Demon skipper Bobby Barbier can admit he was wrong.
“When we did the 40-game (conference) schedule, I thought (the standings) would be different,” he said. “I thought things would be more spaced out. I was wrong.”
Indeed as Northwestern State prepares to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. opener of the four-game series, the Southland standings are quite jumbled with five teams – including the Demons – having clinched spots in the conference tournament, which begins May 26 in Hammond.
NSU’s final series of the season also includes a 2 p.m. Friday doubleheader and a 1 p.m. Saturday series finale. Senior Day ceremonies for eight players will be held ahead of Saturday’s game. All four games can be heard on 95.9 FM and the Demon Sports Network. Free streaming audio and subscription video are available at ....

Acadiana seniors named 2021 National Merit Scholars

Five Acadiana students were named National Merit Scholars, each receiving $2,500 and distinction few can boast.
They are among only 2,500 Merit Scholars nationwide  33 in Louisiana   chosen from a talent pool of some 16,000 finalists in the 2021 scholarship program.
Four hail from Lafayette Parish: Oliver Craddock of Lafayette High; Arden Frantzen of Episcopal School of Acadiana; Rafael Hernandez of Teurlings Catholic High School; and Alaina Le of St. Thomas More Catholic High School.
A fifth, AnaLaysha Burgess-Collazo, is from Jeanerette and attends the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts, a public residential high school in Natchitoches.
They were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by the finalists and their high schools: the academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from the Preliminar ....

Episode 40: Artifacts? Yes. Apparitions? Maybe. – Exploring Magnolia Plantation

My New Orleans
05/20/2021
Don’t you just hate it when you’re walking in the yard of an old farmhouse and there is a ghost staring out the window? How about that strange noise some folks claim they have heard coming from the barn? And do you sometimes get the feeling that someone is looking over your shoulder only to turn and find no one there? Those are stories that Kenneth Brown, an archaeologist from the University of Houston, heard as he went digging at Magnolia Plantation near Natchitoches, Louisiana. Brown did not spot any ghosts himself, but he did learn much about the lives and traditions of those who occupied those grounds – including post-war freed slaves. Brown, who was a guest expert on the Destination America show “Ghost Brothers” which hosted it’s first episode at the plantation, joins Errol Laborde, executive editor of ....
