RURAL schools which have been restricted by poor internet connectivity have received a welcome boost.
Three of the district’s schools are among the first to benefit from a share of £7.8 million grant funding to improve digital connectivity.
It will pay for the rollout of gigabit fibre internet connections, initially at Acomb Primary, Henshaw Primary, and Wylam First School, as well as others in Morpeth and Blyth.
Over the next two years, the Northumberland Gigabit Project will deliver gigabit capable full fibre connectivity to more than 270 public sector sites, including more schools, libraries and Northumbria Care Trust buildings.
It comes after the the North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) made a bid to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) earlier this year for the investment from its Local Full Fibre Networks Programme. ....
