KANSAS CITY, MO The Red Cross has an emergency need for eligible blood donors as surgeries and other procedures ramp up as the coronavirus pandemic recedes.
The need is especially great for platelet donations, which are primarily given to cancer patients during treatment. Platelet donations must be transfused within five days and are always in high demand due to their short shelf life.
“Many cancer patients, especially those going through chemotherapy, will have a need for blood products during treatment,” said Dr. Baia Lasky, medical director for the Red Cross, in a statement. “When someone donates blood or platelets, they may not only help prevent life-threatening bleeding that can cause stroke, or relieve some symptoms like shortness of breath and headaches, but also give patients and their families the time and hope they need to fight back.” ....

How nice. Our benevolent Governor “Walz lifts most virus restrictions by Memorial Day” according to the front page of The Journal on Friday. In typical fashion, if we do this, then Walz will grant that. As if he actually has some sort of Dictator power over us as Minnesota citizens. Oh, wait, he does have his current “Peacetime State of Emergency Powers”. As usual, we find ourselves trying to make sense of the permitted vs. outlawed activities. Oh, the dates and percentages. May 7. May 28. July 1. 59%, 46%, 70%. Through it all, Walz will maintain his stranglehold on our lives. Give up his powers? Not on your life. ....

Tim Walz lost a court battle challenging his emergency powers, specifically his orders limiting church worship services, treating them differently than grocery stores, retail outlets and sports venues. The Upper Midwest Law Center (UMWLC) prevailed in federal court this week on behalf of Northland Baptist Church and Living Word Christian Center against the state’s motion to dismiss the case on March 30, 2021. After losing their motion to dismiss, Attorney General Keith Ellison and Walz decided to settle the case, meaning current and future emergency orders can no longer discriminate against churches on capacity limits. ....
