Mayor Gail Schmidt welcomed new City Administrator Michelle Johnson during the New Richland City Council’s regular meeting, April 26. Johnson’s first day was Tuesday, May 4. 
Following a discussion regarding city financials, the consent agenda items were approved. The People’s Service report was tabled until the May 10 meeting, when the department plans to announce the new city employee filling the vacancy left by now full-time peace officer, Josh Knutson.

Maintenance Department Director Ryan Nissen presented the Streets and Water report and asked the council to consider street improvements for 2021.  ....

Park Rapids City Council approves revolving loan for wine bar
The $50,000 loan will help Karen Acker turn the former Moose Creek furniture store into a wine-tasting venue, retail shop and place to learn about wine making.

The Park Rapids City Council on Tuesday approved extending a revolving loan of $50,000 to Karen Acker for the business venture Wine Not? LLC.
Acker had expressed interest in buying the former Moose Creek furniture store to create a wine bar and retail shop, offering wine-making supplies and classes.
The city’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) recommended approving the loan on March 29, but the council tabled the question on April 13 in order to give City Administrator Angel Weasner time to discuss issues with Acker regarding her state liquor license. ....
