Hospitality vets form new hotel group

Victory Hotel Group s portfolio includes Victory Hospitality and Hay Creek Hotels.
(Victory Hotel Group)
A group of veteran hotel executives, investment bankers and capital partners (consisting of limited partnership and general partnership equity for hotel asset and hospitality company acquisitions) have formed a new hotel group.
Victory Hotel Group will consist of multiple entities under its umbrella. Victory Hospitality, through a joint venture with Equis Hotels, will focus on branded midscale and upscale assets, providing consulting services for all aspects of hotel operations, management, receivership, business development, acquisitions, project management and repositioning of assets. Hay Creek Hotels, in which VHG has taken a majority position, offers an operating and investment platform with a focus on independent and boutique hotels that are strategically located in high barriers to entry and drive-in regional destination markets. ....

Anthony Trollope In "The People's Friend" Archive - The People's Friend

Did you see our piece recently, celebrating the life of renowned Victorian novelist, Anthony Trollope, on the occasion of his birthday?
While I was putting it together, I was in touch with Barry Sullivan, one of the Archive Team here at DC Thomson. In discussion, Barry mentioned that Anthony Trollope “may well have shared some similarities with the Friend’s own Annie S. Swan. Both were very popular and widely read in their heyday, and both very prolific. Both knew the value of their work, and had no pretensions, authors who put pen to paper to pay the bills”.
Barry looked through our old bound volumes of the time, to see if other DC Thomson publications may have had any further mention of Mr Trollope. I thought you might like to see what he found: ....

In Mourning for Prince Albert | History Today

Elisabeth Darby and Nicola Smith look at the impact of the death of Victoria s consort.
John Hobshouse, Lord Broughton, woke up in his quite country retreat on Monday, December 16th, 1861 to discover The Papers in mourning - The Prince Consort
died about 11 o clock on Saturday night . It was a very great shock, to Lord Broughton and to the nation as a whole. Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was only 42 and apparently had not been ill for long. Since his marriage to Queen Victoria in 1840, he had become the mainstay of his wife and family and a respected and imaginative adviser to Government, although the people had mistrusted him as a foreigner and never really warmed to him. Lord Broughton noted sadly that the Prince was an excellent man in all the relations of life - but his merits were not generally acknowledged and he returned to the book he was currently reading. This was Thomas Carlyle s ....

The large blue and white road sign as you enter, says Ceud Mile Failte gu Waipū . So it s a fairly good indication there s some kind of Gaelic influence in this part of Northland. The brewery is called McLeods; the yearly calendar of events includes Highland Games, and rumour has it if you re there on the right night, you can even drop into a Scottish country dancing event.
If Dunedin is the Edinburgh of the south perhaps Waipū is the Glasgow of the north? Little Scotland or not, it s a cracking spot - and absolutely perfect for a weekend away with family. ....
