July Proclaimed ‘Parks Make Life Better’ Month In L.A. County, Including Santa Clarita
The month of July has been designated as “Parks Make Life Better” month in Santa Clarita in recognition of the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation (L.A. County Parks).
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors announced Tuesday that July has been designated as “Parks Make Life Better!” month in Santa Clarita and across Los Angeles County in accordance with a motion made by Hilda Solis, chair of the board.
“Los Angeles County parks serve as an essential component of the County’s social fabric that unites people across regions and provides recreational opportunities for residents to live, play and learn,” Solis said. “Throughout the pandemic we saw a surge in foot traffic across parks and trails, affirming the importance of outdoor spaces in enhancing and supporting the overall health and well-being of communities.” ....

The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District launched the 2021 competitive grant programs totaling $33.4 million for park development across Los Angeles County, with online applications open until Oct. 28.
Funded by Measure A, the programs are open for online applications by eligible park development entities from April 30 to October 28 at 10:00 a.m.
Virtual workshops for the competitive grant programs will be held on May 12 and June 9.
In 2016, LA County voters passed the Los Angeles County Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Measure (Measure A) by 74.9%.
The annual parcel tax, which taxes real property in the County at a rate of 1.6 cents per square of development, generates approximately $95 million in revenue every year. ....

L.A. County Announces $33.4 Million Grant Program For Park Development

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District today announced a $33.4 million grant program for cities and organizations throughout the county that want to spearhead park development in their communities.
“I encourage every city, nonprofit, community organization, and school to take advantage of this great opportunity to create community parks, said L.A. County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl.
“This funding gives community groups a chance to imagine the kind of green space that would make the biggest difference in the health and well-being of local residents and to apply for the money to make it real. ....

The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD) announced new funding opportunities for park development across Los Angeles County, made possible by the Los Angeles County Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Measure of 2016 (Measure A).
Funded by an annual parcel tax, Measure A will help increase the amount of park space and improve neighborhood access to open space, particularly in ‘high park need’ or ‘very-high park need’ communities.
