Gwinnett County Commission Chair could get a significan...

In a press release from the commissioners on Tuesday, they say that the salary should reflect cost of living adjustments and to reflect the growth of the county. They believe the salary should be more in line with positions that serve larger communities.

Historically, the county only offers raises that are employee based, but in this case, they say it’s time for an adjustment. The last salary adjustment was made in 2007.

If approved by the General Assembly, the new salary would be effective on Jan. 1, 2022, unless delegation changes that timelines.

The commission chair, currently held by newly elected Nicole Love Hendrickson, is the only position that is full time, and it often requires night and weekend work. ....

James McCoy, president of the Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, has been tapped for an advisory committee for Rep. Carolyn Bourdeaux.
Bourdeaux, who was elected in November, announced in a release on Wednesday, Jan. 13, that she had put together “a group of 18 experts from diverse backgrounds” including business leaders, health care and public health professionals, elected officials and school board members.

Nicole Love Hendrickson said she did not run for county commission chairwoman to make history, but she did not ignore the significance of her taking the oath to fill that office on Monday.
Hendrickson is the first African-American to be elected to serve as the head of Gwinnett Countyâs government. She was sworn into the office at a ceremony that showcased the countyâs diversity on Monday as her four-year term officially begins Friday.
âI ran to create change, but I would be remiss if I did not reflect on the historical significance of todayâs swearing in,â Hendrickson said. âJust 55 years ago, a Black woman could not even vote. Being the first Black Democratic woman to hold this seat is not a responsibility I take lightly. Savannah mayor to Loeffler, Perdue: More federal COVID relief needed for local governments
Savannah Mayor Van Johnson, along with 10 other Georgia elected leaders from across the state, have asked Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler to fight for more COVID-19 relief for local governments.
In a letter sent to Sens. Perdue and Loeffler this week, the officials said the proposed COVID-19 relief package, which is currently awaiting President Donald Trump’s signature, fails to provide vital funds for essential workers in local governments.
“This lack of funding, coupled with the looming threat of a possible government shutdown, compels us to demand that you fight for the relief we need,” the letter reads. ....
