OMG ! VIRUS - Star of Mysore

OMG ! VIRUS
April 17, 2021
Religion Vs Virus, who’ll win? We will know soon as the Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gathering in the world, is underway.
It is shocking that the Government has given permission for the Kumbh Mela at a time when Covid cases are rising exponentially, Oxygen supplies are running low and Remdesivir, the crucial drug in the fight against Covid, is unavailable.
By the way, remember Tablighi Jamaat? In 2020, there was such outrage that it was made to seem like the gathering of about 2,000 Tablighi Jamaat members would “super-spread” Coronavirus and annihilate the entire Indian subcontinent. But, now when the Government allows the largest religious gathering on the planet, there is… Shhhhhhh! Silence.

New Delhi: Faced with the reality that ‘Maa Ganga’ washing away the virus wasn’t, in fact, an appropriate way to combat COVID-19 at the massive Kumbh Mela being held at Haridwar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now said that participation in the religious festival should now be “symbolic”.
Modi tweeted that he spoke to Swami Avdheshanand Giri of the Juna Akhara over the telephone and enquired about the health of saints, many of whom have contracted the virus. “I prayed that two ‘shahi snan’ have taken place and Kumbh (participation) should now be kept symbolic. This will boost the fight against this crisis,” Modi tweeted in Hindi.

Haridwar: 2,167 positive COVID-19 cases in last five days; Kumbh Mela to continue

Haridwar: 2,167 positive COVID-19 cases in last five days; Kumbh Mela to continue

Haridwar: A total of 2167 people were found positive for
coronavirus in
Kumbh Mela is going on -- in the last five days.
According to the
Uttarakhand State Control Room, there were 254
COVID-19 positive cases on April 10, 386 on April 11, 408 on April 12, 594 on April 13 and 525 on April 14.
Officials have meanwhile said that despite a record surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, the Kumbh Mela will continue till April 30.
"Kumbh Mela used to begin in January but looking at the COVID-19 situation, the state government decided to start this in April. The Centre's SOP said that in the wake of the situation the period (of Mela) be reduced. I have no information if it's being curtailed," Haridwar District Magistrate and Kumbh Mela officer Deepak Rawat said on Wednesday.

Jump right in: Restriction for namaz at Nizamuddin Markaz

India has become bizarre. The Delhi High Court rejected the submission of the Centre and the Delhi police that only 20 people be allowed to enter the mosque at Nizamuddin Markaz for prayers during Ramadan from a police-verified list of 200. The court reportedly said that there cannot be a fixed list of devotees since no other place of worship has it. Prayers will be offered according to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority protocols for Covid-19 control, with correct distancing inside the mosque. But all devotees can enter when their turn comes. Here it is bizarre that the Centre and the police persist in keeping a particular memory alive: the premises hosted the Tablighi Jamaat meeting last year and its members were arrested for deliberately and negligently spreading the Covid-19 virus. The accusations were dismissed in court and the media were severely admonished for making scapegoats of the participants who belonged to the minority community. By keeping the premises out of bounds and then going to court about prayers in the mosque there, the Centre and the police are trying to invest the site with negative associations, although their basis has proved to be non-existent. That the Delhi High Court reportedly said that nobody can take away the building could not be without a reason.

Kumbh Mela Cases

Apr 16, 2021, 16:57 IST
The Uttarakhand government or BJP, in general, is not realizing what situation they are in. The Kumbh Mela incident is something that puts thousands of people at risk. Nothing can be said as of now but the situation that has already gotten out of hands might become even worse if a solid decision isn’t taken.
It was reported that over 1000 people in Haridwar were detected with the coronavirus. On Monday, around 400 people tested positive while on Tuesday, it was 600. This number in Haridwar is increasing every day.
Even though the situation is significantly worse and there is a risk of contracting the virus, many people are attending religious events and political rallies. In the past two days, devotees in large numbers gathered near the river banks to take a dip in the holy water. The Kumbh Mela which was supposed to be a hush event this year took a dangerous turn and the ruling party has not done anything to control the situation.

Haridwar Kumbh Mela to be cancelled? Uttarakhand CM convenes high-level meet today

Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat will convene a high-level meeting today regarding Kumbh, Remdisivir
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has defended Haridwar Kumbh Mela amid demands to cancel the mega event in view of the Covid pandemic. Rawat has convened a high-level meeting on Friday to discuss the issue. The issue of scarcity of Remdisivir in the state is also expected to be discussed in the high-level meeting.
Haridwar reported 594 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, thus, taking the number of active cases to 2,812. Haridwar's coronavirus count was 408 on Monday.
Rawat had earlier defended the Kumbh Mela and asked people to not compare it with the Nizamuddin Markaz. "There should be no comparison between Kumbh and Markaz. The Markaz was held in a closed space, in a Kothi-like structure whereas the Kumbh is being held in the open on the sprawling ghats of the Ganga," he said.

The Delhi high court on Thursday allowed 50 people to offer namaz five times a day on the first floor of Nizamuddin Markaz mosque during Ramzan, saying there is no direction in the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) notification to close down places of worship.
However, the court refused to increase the number of people or allow the use of other floors of the mosque for offering prayers as sought by senior advocate Ramesh Gupta on behalf of the Delhi Waqf Board, saying 'day-by-day situation is getting worse in Delhi'.
