Freeport’s proposed budget could raise property tax rate by 4.34%
As of now, the proposed municipal, school, transit and county budgets would put Freeport s tax rate at $14.56 per $1,000 of property value.

Freeport is weighing a roughly $32.2 million budget that would result in an estimated 4.34% property tax increase for fiscal year 2021-2022.
Factoring in the municipal, school, county and transit budgets, the total proposed increase in the amount raised from taxes sits at roughly $1.1 million.
This represents a tax increase of about 56 cents per $1,000 of property value, bringing Freeport’s tax rate to $14.56 per $1,000 of property value. This translates to a $4,368 tax bill for a $300,000 home, a $168 increase over 2021. ....

Recognition
For the eighth year in a row, the town of Freeport has received the Government Finance Officers Association’s “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.” This award reflects the commitment of the Town Council and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, Freeport had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. As the individual primarily responsible, Freeport’s Finance Director Jessica Maloy received a certificate of recognition, which she has received each year she has worked for the town since 2015.
