First-quarter 2021 profit per share was USD2.77, compared with USD1.98 profit per share in the first quarter of 2020. Profit per share for both quarters included restructuring costs, while the first quarter of 2020 also included a pre-tax remeasurement gain of USD254 million, or USD0.38 per share, resulting from the settlement of a non-U.S. pension obligation. Profit for the first quarter of 2021 was USD1.530 billion, an increase of USD438 million, or 40 percent, compared with USD1.092 billion for the first quarter of 2020.
The increase was mostly due to higher sales volume. The absence of a remeasurement gain resulting from the settlement of a non-U.S. pension obligation that occurred in the first quarter of 2020 and higher selling, general and administrative (SG&A) and research and development (R&D) expenses were offset by favorable impacts from foreign exchange (gains) losses, unrealized gains (losses) on marketable securities at Insur ....

NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Cat Financial reported first-quarter 2021 revenues of $639 million, a decrease of $56 million, or 8%, compared with the first quarter of 2020. First-quarter 2021 profit was $140 million, a $50 million, or 56%, increase from the first quarter of 2020.
The decrease in revenues was primarily due to a $40 million unfavorable impact from lower average financing rates and a $19 million unfavorable impact from lower average earning assets.
First-quarter 2021 profit before income taxes was $196 million, a $69 million, or 54%, increase from the first quarter of 2020. The increase was primarily due to a $71 million decrease in provision for credit losses, partially offset by a $13 million increase in general, operating and administrative expenses, primarily due to higher incentive compensation. The impact of lower average financing rates was offset by lower interest expense. ....

Cat Financial reported revenues of $2.55 billion for 2020, a decrease of $416 million, or 14%, compared with 2019. Profit was $293 million for 2020, a $117 million, or 29%, decrease from 2019.
The decrease in revenues was primarily due to a $190 million unfavorable impact from lower average financing rates and a $151 million unfavorable impact from lower average earning assets.
Profit before income taxes was $434 million for 2020, a $194 million, or 31%, decrease from 2019. The decrease was primarily due to a $104 million increase in provision for credit losses, a $69 million unfavorable impact from lower average earning assets, a $52 million decrease in net yield on average earning assets and a $36 million unfavorable impact from returned or repossessed equipment. These unfavorable impacts were partially offset by an $82 million decrease in general, operating and administrative expenses, primarily due to lower incentive compensation. ....
