The DDC also sought details about the disposal of medical and bio-medical waste. The medical authorities assured the Chair that the medical waste is collected on a regular basis at DHD and PHC levels for proper disposal.
He also sought a detailed report from the concerned officers for identifying and establishment of landfill sites for proper disposal of solid waste in the district within a weeks time to keep the town smart and pollution free.
The Education department was directed to generate awareness among the children about the importance of preservation and conservation of Environment and Ecology. ....

He also directed Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Shopian for monitoring illegal encroachment of roads and footpaths by the street vendors so that the common public should not have to face inconvenience on this behalf and also emphasized for collection of door to door wastage.
The meeting also discussed shifting of street vendors at a suitable place and directed Tehsildar Shopian and Executive Officer Municipal Committee for identifying the place for their rehabilitation. He also directed Assistant Regional Transport Officer Shopian for visiting various places to check illegal practices by transporters including wrong parking.
The DDC stressed in the meeting that there is an urgent need for a proper waste disposal system and also segregation of solid waste management to ensure cleanliness in and around the town. ....
