DC Shopian visits Ziarat-i-Sharief Pinjoora

During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner directed the officers of Municipal Committee Shopian to sanitization the area within and around the Ziarat-i-Sharief as a preventive measure to Covid-19. He emphasized upon them to keep the basic amenities including portable water, uninterrupted electricity and other facilities available for devotees at the location so no inconvenience shall be faced by them.
Meanwhile, he also directed the transport authorities for providing transport facilities to the people coming from different and far off places to observe Meraj Alam in the shrine.

He directed District Mineral Officer for proper checking of extraction work and also asked for detailed reports without any failure.
The DDC also sought details about the disposal of medical and bio-medical waste. The medical authorities assured the Chair that the medical waste is collected on a regular basis at DHD and PHC levels for proper disposal.
He also sought a detailed report from the concerned officers for identifying and establishment of landfill sites for proper disposal of solid waste in the district within a weeks time to keep the town smart and pollution free.
The Education department was directed to generate awareness among the children about the importance of preservation and conservation of Environment and Ecology. ....

DDC reviews beautification of Shopian town

He also directed Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Shopian for monitoring illegal encroachment of roads and footpaths by the street vendors so that the common public should not have to face inconvenience on this behalf and also emphasized for collection of door to door wastage.
The meeting also discussed shifting of street vendors at a suitable place and directed Tehsildar Shopian and Executive Officer Municipal Committee for identifying the place for their rehabilitation. He also directed Assistant Regional Transport Officer Shopian for visiting various places to check illegal practices by transporters including wrong parking.
The DDC stressed in the meeting that there is an urgent need for a proper waste disposal system and also segregation of solid waste management to ensure cleanliness in and around the town. ....

Renovated Shopian Jamia premises again grabbed by vendors

Municipality says will send them packing soon
SHOPIAN: Even after strict orders from Municipal Committee Shopian to not to use the exteriors of Jamia Masjid Shopian, dozens of such vendors have again appeared around this historic site and have installed carts and other goods.
Since last year authorities have spent tens of lacs of rupees on renovation of beautification of this historical mosque which was constructed in 1930s.
The funds spent were solely of the general public.
Locals particularly those who offer five time prayers in the mosque say that for a few months, the vendors were vacated around the premises but they have again occupied the space,even blocking the entrances of the mosque. ....
