LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Following the collapse of a South Florida condominium that killed 98 people last month, Los Angeles Councilman Paul Koretz today introduced a motion to have the Department of Building and Safety report on the city s existing inspection protocols for high-rise buildings, best practices for the inspections and steps to ensure that L.A. avoids a similar tragedy.
“The devastation endured by the families and friends who lost loved ones last month in Miami is not something we should ever see here in Los Angeles, Koretz said. “While Miami officials are still investigating the cause of the collapse of the Surfside condos, we here in Los Angeles need to look at our own high-rises to determine if there are any structural, geological or environmental factors that could compromise their safety. ....

The Los Angeles City Planning Commission is holding a Zoom hearing with public comment regarding the Reese Davidson Project this Thursday, May 27 at 8:30 am.
The Reese-Davidson project is a proposed project slated to be built on a 2.8-acre parcel in a residential area straddling the Grand Canal at the Venice Boulevard entrance to Venice Beach, a block from the southern edge of the Venice Boardwalk.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) The judge overseeing the public corruption case involving ex-Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar agreed Monday to put off the trial until next year.
Citing concerns over issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, attorney schedules and voluminous evidentiary materials, prosecutors and defense lawyers filed a stipulation to start the trial on May 24, 2022. U.S. District Judge John F. Walter granted the proposal after indicating he had wished to start proceedings earlier.
