Let’s Get Wellington Moving is asking people to have their say on proposed safer speed limits on State Highway 1 and a new walking and cycling crossing on Cobham Drive.
The projects support Let’s Get Wellington Moving’s objectives of improving safety for everyone using our city’s roads, streets and paths, and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
Formal consultation on proposed new speed limits, of 50km/h on Ruahine Street and 60km/h on Cobham Drive and Calabar Road, starts on Wednesday.

Widows finally get answers after 2013 Southland crash


Initial investigations suggested that a braking manoeuvre from Brenssell was the cause of the crash.
After taking more evidence and expert opinion into account, Coroner Ryan found it was more likely the A-frame collapsed as they entered the bend, shifting the weight, and initiating the roll-over sequence.

Council fails to address 17 years of safety fears along rural Tīrau road

Horahora Rd residents Ann Paget and Leo Wolters are two of many calling for speed-reducing measures to be put in place.
Residents of a rural Tīrau road won’t be surprised when a dangerous driver kills one of their own.
But after 17 years of calling on the South Waikato District Council to install double yellow lines along a built-up section of Horahora​ Rd and reduce the speed from 100km to 80km, rest assured they’ll be angry.
It comes as the scenic road, which has seen dozens of new homes built over the past few years and an influx of cyclists due to the Waikato River Trails, has become a bit of a speedway bypass from Tokoroa’s Old Taupō Rd to State Highway 1, 10km north of Tīrau. The advent of GPS has progressively worsened the situation. ....
