Navajo Parks and Recreation Department keeps sites closed to all


FARMINGTON  Tribal parks, monuments and recreation areas maintained by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department remain closed to the public, including to tribal members, because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Department officials stated in a press release this week that such areas will remain off limits after reviewing the public health emergency order issued on April 22 and determining the reopening of parks does not apply to those under their management.
Public Health Emergency Order No. 2021-009 was issued by the Navajo Department of Health. It elevated the tribe to yellow status under its reopening plan and set occupancy limits for businesses, including those identified as marinas and parks. ....

We will explore and interact with Native American people in the Southwest, including
the
Navajo, Hopi and Zuni. We ll travel with Astrological Anthropologist, Jerry Snow and learn from Native experts/guides
about their cultures unique histories, belief systems, spiritual worldviews, art-mythologies,
tribal laws, customs and domestic life. We ll spend three days camping on a Navajo
ranch and doing service work; other service work will be scheduled with schools, national
parks or museums that specialize in cultural engagements projects. 
This 18-day itinerary includes Flagstaff, Arizona s Museum of Northern Arizona; Walnut
Canyon and Singua cliff dwellings to learn about the desert flora and fauna; Sunset ....

There is hope now : Well project in western Navajo Nation gives families a new water supply

Walking along the run-down wire fence of her family s farm plot, Eileen Tohonnie recalls a time when her family was able to plant every spring.
The family s plot sits along the Little Colorado River in Black Falls, Arizona, on the Navajo Nation. Black Falls is about an hour north of Flagstaff, near Wupatki National Monument. 
Tohonnie, 59, said her mother loved to plant corn, and when the river was flowing, her older brother Ronald Tohonnie would help pump water for their crops directly from the river. In months when water wasn t flowing, the family could easily dig to the water table.  ....
