NourishNC breaks ground on new Market Street facility

NourishNC announced Tuesday that the construction of its new 12,000-square-foot facility is now underway.
With the lease of its current space at 601 Greenfield St. ending soon, NourishNC executive director Steve McCrossan said the time has come for a larger facility being built at 3606 Market St.(
ground breaking pictured right) to help the organization distribute food more efficiently in their fight against childhood hunger.
“Owning a ‘forever home’ is a part of NourishNC’s promise to guarantee that every hungry child in our community has access to nutritious food now and in perpetuity,” McCrossan said. “Our new home is centrally located for the children we serve, their families, and our army of volunteers. We can’t wait to share this tremendous asset with the community we love.” ....

Big Dawg's theatrical audio format benefits reprisal of horror-fueled 'Wendigo,' streaming this month

WILMINGTON In 2016 when Chase Harrison won StarNews’ Theater Award for Best Original Play for “Wendigo” a horror play that debuted at the now-defunct Browncoat Pub and Theater little did he know he would reprise it in 2021 in a different format because of a pandemic. Big Dawg Productions is opening “Wendigo: An Audio Drama” on Thursday, which will be available for streaming through Mar. 21.
It’s been one year now since Big Dawg launched an in-person production. It began doing audio dramas with Orson Welles “War of the Worlds” last spring, followed by Christmastime’s “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol.” The productions have been funded by grants from The Landfall Foundation and the Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County. ....

Focusing behind the lens: Theatre for All pivots, keeps connectivity, passion alive for artists with disabilities

WILMINGTON A local theater collective has gone from the stage to the big screen in making sure its members continue connecting and creating during Covid-19. Theatre for All encourages the passion of performance artists with disabilities, and over the course of the year has made seven original films from writing the screenplays to acting in them.
Its latest, “Diamond in the Rough,” will screen as part of Cucalorus Curbside Cinema come March 19 (originally, it was slated for Feb. 12 but has been rescheduled from rain). The short film is also available to screen now on the company’s YouTube channel. ....
